Folklore — Privacy Policy

Hello Good Day LLC

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Folklore is built by Hello Good Day LLC. We designed it to keep your family history private by default. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version

  • Your family tree — names, dates, notes, photos — is stored on your device and, if you enable it, in your own private iCloud account.
  • We do not have a server that stores your family data. We cannot see your tree or your photos.
  • Photo restoration runs entirely on your iPhone. Photos are never uploaded.
  • We collect a small amount of anonymous usage and diagnostic data, described below.

Information stored on your device and in iCloud

Everything you enter — people, relationships, life events, sources, photos, and colors — is saved locally using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud enabled for Folklore, this data syncs through your private CloudKit database, which only you can access. Hello Good Day has no access to it.

Anonymous analytics

Folklore includes lightweight, privacy-preserving analytics (via our PulseKit component and Apple's App Store) to understand how many people open the app and whether purchases succeed. This data is not linked to your identity and does not include the contents of your family tree.

  • App opens (a daily count, no identifier tied to you)
  • Purchase events (so we know a purchase completed — handled by Apple)
  • Basic device model and OS version for diagnostics

Feedback you send

If you use Send Feedback in Settings, your message is submitted anonymously. We include your app version, device model, and OS version to help us fix issues. We have no way to identify you or reply.

Purchases

Folklore Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes all payments. We never see your payment details. Purchase and subscription status is managed by Apple and StoreKit on your device.

Data you export

When you export a GEDCOM file, that file is created on your device and shared wherever you choose to send it. Once it leaves the app, it is under your control.

Children's privacy

Folklore is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

  • Turn off iCloud sync in the iOS Settings app to keep data only on your device.
  • Use Delete All People in Settings to permanently remove your entire tree from this device and your iCloud.
  • Delete the app to remove its local data.
