Questions

How are the zones worked out?

Estimated maximum is 220 minus your age. The zones are 50 to 60, 60 to 70, 70 to 80, 80 to 90, and 90 to 100 percent of that number, rounded to whole beats.

How accurate is 220 minus age?

It's a rough population estimate, and many people's true maximum is well above or below it. Treat the zones as a starting point.

Is this medical advice?

No. This is not medical advice. Medications and health conditions can change your heart rate, so talk to a clinician before you start hard exercise or if you have any concerns.

Why does it ask for ages 18 to 100?

This page is meant for adults. Children and teens should get guidance from a clinician or coach.
